Vickie Young
Owner and Operator
Vickie and Arctic Tails are practically synonyms. It really
seems that one could not exist without the other! Vickie began to
work on creating Arctic Tails on November 22nd, 2002. From the
moment the doors first opened the following August 11th, she has
been blessed with nothing but memorable moments and it keeps getting
better!
Vickie has been working with animals for as long as she can remember. She's done volunteer work with all kinds of animals
- from the dogs and
cats at animal shelters, to the wild and exotic animals at the zoo. She's wrangled at a ranch, gussied-up pets by grooming, |
|
and taught many
tricks as a trainer. Outside of Arctic Tails, she still enjoys
training dogs to work and play and is very active in Flyball.
It will probably come as no surprise that an animal lover like Vickie
has no less than nine dogs at home! She is President of
Polar Pug Rescue and has seven pugs of her own.
They are Huckleberry, Paris, Morticha, Louie, Bilbo, Pippen, and Peggi
Sue. Her
other furries are an English Setter, named Zena and the lovable terrier
mix, Valentine. Each of her dogs has a unique history all its own,
and a unique place in her heart. She's been thinking about
eventually adding a pygmy goat into the mix! Although Arctic Tails
takes a lot of Vickie's day, she always seems to find time to support
her kids at their ball games, camp, and ride horseback. She also
spends time with Valentine and other dogs, training for Flyball.
Vickie says, "The most wonderful thing about Arctic Tails is meeting and
being a part of all these dogs' lives, and their people too! Ever
since I opened my doors, it just keeps getting better!"

Mary Irvine -
Manager Okay,
this isn't a picture of Mary! It is her son though, Vickie's first
grandson, Cale. He is in training very early! Mary has been with
Arctic Tails almost two years. She is a busy mom with three dogs of
her own. Two pugs and Molly a lab mix. (The coffee shop was named
after Molly!) When she's not at work she spends time with her
husband and son. |

Jessica Johnson: When I'm not working at Arctic Tails I am a
full time student at UAA working towards a biology degree. I hope to put
it to use in a career with animals both domestic and wild. I love
hiking, photography, collecting movies, music and writing. |

Meagan - I am a
sophomore at UAA double majoring (yikes!) in Early childhood
education and Psychology. With my degrees I aim to be a child
psychologist one day owning my own practice. I am Vickie's daughter
and most of the clients have watched me grow up here at the shop.
While most teens spent their time stirring up...poo, I spent my time
picking up...poo! Nowadays outside of work I coach Pop Warner
cheerleading, spend time with my boyfriend and play with our two
dogs Zena, english setter, and our new addition Boss, rott mix. |
